The Social Hangover

Summer. A horrid season full of parties, beaches, sun, and bounds of people seeking social time during vacation. Usually it is a time of relaxation and recharging for a coming year of school and work. But there are those of us that loath this time of social niceties. 

We live in a fast-paced world that demands we strive to have it all, and do it all. But the fact is we all have limitations. We do not have unlimited energy, nor boundless abilities. Every year we come out of summer with some serious social hangovers. Phones go untouched, nooks and crannies filled with our hobbies and books call to us at the end of the day.  

But, does it have to be this way? NO! I present to you five steps to avoid the social hangover:


Until you accept that you can only be successful within your own limitations, you will keep falling to social hangovers. Stop trying to live up to others' expectations, and live well within yourself.

Repeat this with me: 
        It's okay to be introverted. 
               It's okay to need alone time. 
                      It's okay to need a break!

 Mountains are High, Valleys are Low

If you find yourself stuck in the cycle of energy ups and downs, there is something you can do!

Get to know your own rhythms. Ask questions such as:
     When do I feel peppy or tired? 
     Morning, afternoon, evening?
     When do I concentrate best?
     How many engagements can I take a week?

Keep a journal, pay attention, and soon you'll be able to portion out your energy.

Don't be a Fattie

Energy is limited, and we need to think carefully about how we use it. 

It can be hard to acknowledge that you can't do everything, but when you prioritize, you learn just what is precious to you. When those things get your energy first; when you make conscious choices; it allows us to really appreciate what we can do.

        Compromise: The Key to Life

 Do you have a big event coming up, where you know you'll have to socialize? Try not to plan anything before, or even after.

Give yourself the much needed rest, and recharge using the information you learned from step two! 

Step by Step, Choice by Choice

We, as introverts, tend to get overwhelmed at the prospect of new things. Just thinking about how much energy it will take is enough to make us run back to our novels and warm drinks. 

But, if you look at the task in parts, taking it step by step, I know you can do it! 

Let's pretend your best friend organized a party for you. ow nice. (-.-) You can't just not go, so what do you do?

Show up. Step inside, but stay towards the walls. Take breaks and go outside. Say hi. 

                           Just take it step by step;                                                                               one choice at a time.

Now it's time for you to avoid the social hangover.

Take these steps, and make an action plan.

Most importantly, be the best you that you can be.
